THE police have opened a case of murder after the discovery of the body of a 4-year-old girl in a drain in Eldorado Park, south of Johannesburg on Wednesday night.
One suspect has been taken in for questioning.
Police spokesman Captain Kay Makhubela said the family of the child had opened a missing person report on Wednesday when they could not find the girl by late afternoon.
"Someone pointed at the drain and suggested the body might be in there. The body of the little girl was found in the drain with wounds. We have opened a case of murder and possibly rape."
Makhubela said although one suspect had been taken in for questioning, he believed there might be more than one suspect.
Investigations are continuing.
