“GOD sent me to the toilet so I could save an innocent soul.”
That was how 26-year-old Sindisiwe Sibisi describes the miracle of finding a newborn baby in her outside pit toilet on Tuesday.
Sindisiwe had gone to the toilet to empty her bucket full of pee when suddenly, she heard crying
She looked down into the three-metre deep pit and realised it was a baby.
The woman from Nseleni in northern KZN said she believes the baby is her gift from God.
“She has to be mine and I want to adopt her. If I hadn’t gone to the toilet to empty that bucket, she would probably have suffocated or died.”
the baby’s mum is unknown.
“I heard footsteps at 12am on Monday and ignored them, thinking it was a neighbour.
“I only realised the next morning it could have been the baby’s mum. We found the little girl wrapped in dried grass. She’s lucky to be alive.”
Sindisiwe said she has two young daughters who depend on child support grants, but insisted she would take care of the little girl.
Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said search and rescue cops found the baby alive and rushed her to hospital, where she is receiving attention.
“A case of attempted murder was opened but the baby’s mother is still at large.” Social development’s Vukani Mbhele said: “Sindisiwe can visit our offices. Social workers will help her with the adoption
