Tira was nominated in the best male DJ category at the South African DJ Awards
MZANSI’S DJs are gearing up for the first award to honour and recognise their talents.
The South African DJ Awards will take centre stage in Durban as the first outdoor awards show.
It will be held at the People’s Park at Moses Mabhida Stadium next Saturday.
Vusi Leeuw, the awards spokesman, said the awards will be an annual celebration to promote, reward and recognise the best DJs in the country.
He said DJs are never recognised with music awards.
“But this time, they will have their own awards that focus on them specifically.
“There will be 18 categories. This shows that we have many great DJs in Mzansi,” said Leeuw.
The categories include: best house DJ, best hip hop DJ, best male and female DJs, best gqom DJ, song of the year and a category for student DJs.
DJ Tira has been nominated three times.
He was nominated for best male DJ, best collaboration for Amadoda by DJ Gukwa and for song of the year for Malume, which features Tipcee.
The only category that isn’t specifically for DJs is the best dance award.
Babes Wodumo, Tipcee, DJ Bongz, Zakes Bantwini and Okmalumkoolkat have been nominated.
The best radio DJ category will set tongues wagging. It’ll be a hot contest against legendary radio DJs such as Glen Lewis, DJ Fresh, Tbo Touch, Ms Cosmo and Roger Goode.
