UN HONOURS SA SOLDIER!

MAJOR Seitebatso Block is doing Mzansi proud!
Today the soldier will receive a prestige United Nations award, namely Military Gender Advocate of the Year.
This will happen at a large gathering of defence ministers at the UN Peacekeeping Defence Ministerial Conference in Vancouver, Canada. The award recognises dedication by an individual peacekeeper in promoting the principles contained in the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325.
In a statement, Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula congratulated Block on her achievement.
“We salute the major for her hard work and dedication while serving in the DRC.
“As a peace and goodwill ambassador in her own right, she is an example of what every member of the SANDF should be.
Block joined the army in 2007 and has twice been sent to the DRC as part of the United Nations stabilisation mission.
In 2010 she served as an information operations officer in the DRC and last year she was a force intervention brigade planner.
She also was instrumental in distributing information to women’s organisations in far-flung areas of the DRC.
The chief of the South African army, Lieutenant-General Lindile Yam, will lead Mzansi’s delegation to the conference.
