METRORAIL SUSPENDS OPERATIONS IN CAPE TOWN!

METRORAIL in the Western Cape has suspended all trains operations on the central line.
The train service provider advised commuters to make alternative transport solutions.
Commuters from Khayelitsha, Philippi, Mitchells Plain, Bishop Lavis and Langa will be directly affected by the suspension.
"Stations in these areas will be closed and no tickets will be on sale until further notice," Metrorail said in a statement.
"The drastic measures come in the wake of months of sustained vandalism, cable theft and destruction of critical infrastructure in the Bontheuwe, Netreg and Nyanga areas having reached a stage where no further service is possible," Metrorail said.
According to the Metrorail regional manager Richard Walker, vandals targeted several mini sub-stations, cables, and back-up batteries over the weekend, leaving the rail operator with no option but to suspend services.
"This high volume corridor is earmarked for modernisation, but unless all stakeholders play their part to create a more conducive environment in an effort to provide world-class rail services will be fruitless," Walker said.
Metrorail has offered a reward of up to R25 000 for any information leading to a conviction, with guaranteed anonymity.
