WHEN a cop met a man on Facebook, she thought she might have found love.
But she was actually knocking on death’s door. The woman from Brits, North West, was shot and killed by thugs in the early hours of yesterday morning while visiting her new lover in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni.
According to sources, the woman was preparing to get married to another man who had paid lobola for her, but she was looking for a way out of the relationship.
A source said: “She was not with the man who paid lobola because they were always fighting and she wanted to leave him.
“The cop met her new lover on Facebook and the man travelled to Brits.
“They organised for her to visit him in Tembisa over the weekend.”
The woman was shot after she went to fetch her bag from her car outside. Two armed men cornered her, demanding money.
One of the thugs allegedly followed her into the boyfriend’s rented room in Emoyeni section. Gauteng police spokesman Captain Mavela Masondo confirmed the incident.
“The suspects tried to take the woman’s bag but she wouldn’t hand it over. One of the thugs allegedly grabbed the bag and left the house, but the woman followed him. Her boyfriend then heard gunshots outside.”
The boyfriend and his landlord called an ambulance, but the woman was declared dead when paramedics arrived.
A murder case is being investigated.
