THERE'S just too many people being killed in Mzansi.
The 2016/17 crime statistics revealed that the murder rate in Mzansi has gone up by 1.8%.
Presenting the statistics to Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Police, Major General Sekhukhune reported a total of 19016 murders for the 2016/2017 financial year.
He said murder has increased in 4 of the 9 provinces.
In Gauteng murder is up 6,7%, Mpumalanga is 11,1%, Western Cape 2,7%, Kwazulu-Natal 2.2%.
Attempted murder has also gone up by 3.2%.
Robbery with aggravating has increased in all 9 provinces.
The is also a 0.9% increase in the number of sexual assaults reported to police in 2016/2017 financial year.
Minister @Police minister Fikile Mbalula said alcohol and substance abuse have been found to have played a major role in contact crimes.
Other stats are as follows:
- Assault GBH decreased by 6.7%
- Common assault decreased by 5.2%
- Sexual offences has decreased by 4.3%
- Murder's gone up by 4.6%
- Aggravated robbery up by 6.4%
- Property-related crime experienced a decrease of 0.5%.
