WATER IS IN SHORT SUPPLY

Residents of Mangaung gets water from the Water tanks

A WATER crisis has hit Mangaung.
resident Janette Fanqa (41) from Freedom Square, who said: “We have been struggling to get water for a week now but the Mangaung Municipality just sent a water tank.
“We come here every morning to queue for water.
“We wish the municipality would hurry up and fix the supply, because it is taking a long time.”
Motshidisi Mofokeng (50) of Phase 4 said: “We wake up early in the morning to come and fetch water.
“We are fetching it from as far as Freedom Square because the tanks are parked there.
“We also request the municipality to send tanks to Phase 4 and Peter Swartz while it fixes the pipes,” said Motshidisi.
Mangaung spokesman Qondile Khedama said the water pipes had burst.
“Our team has been working through the night.
“It has managed to extract the damaged concrete pipe and is busy with the installation of a new steel pipe.
“We also have picked up a number of new areas in the northern and southern parts of the city that were affected and are working tirelessly to cover those areas with tanks.
“All residents of Mangaung are asked to use water sparingly to avoid more interruptions to the supply that is available.
“Bloem Water is doing its best to undertake these repairs with minimal interruptions as speedily as possible,” said Khedama.
“After a week-long struggle with interruptions caused by the first burst pipe on 16 November, just when we thought we had overcome the disruption, a second pipe burst on Monday.
“This made the situation worse and a number of areas in Bloemfontein were affected.
“We speedily set up water tanks but they seem to be insufficient as a result of the high demand.”
