Two taxis were set alight in Esigodini at the weekend.
Taxi Association members are at each other’s throats, but it’s the residents who have been left to pay the price.
Edendale-Esigodini Taxi Association members refuse to service Esigodini, after two taxis were torched in the area on Sunday.
Now residents of the kasi outside Pietermaritzburg, KZN are forced to walk long distances to taxi ranks in other areas.
A source claimed the dispute is about calls for a split.
“Some want Edendale and Esigodini to have separate associations but others disagree,” said the source.
A resident said he was now forced to walk 5km to catch a taxi.
“I have to wake up three hours earlier than before.
“The taxi bosses should resolve their dispute quickly,” he said.
Umgungundlovu Taxi Association chairman Bheki Sokhela said efforts to resolve the issues in the Edendale-Esigodini Taxi Association were unsuccessful.
“We have now placed our hope in the police.”
KZN police spokeswoman Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said two cases of malicious damage to property have been opened.
She said: “No one has been arrested but police are patrolling the taxi rank and the surrounding areas.”
