Two men drowned in separate incidents at KwaZulu-Natal dams at the weekend.
A man believed to be 34 years old drowned in the Chelmsford Dam in Newcastle in northern KwaZulu-Natal, paramedics said on Sunday.
The man went missing on Saturday afternoon and paramedics and the SAPS search and rescue unit were called to the scene, ER24 spokesperson Ineke van Huyssteen said.
The search continued on Sunday morning and the body was found.
It was believed that the man and his friends were at the dam when he decided to go for a swim and went missing, Van Huyssteen said.
In the second incident a man believed to be 56 years old drowned at the Albert Falls Dam at Cramond near Pietermaritzburg, paramedics said on Sunday.
Paramedics, along with the SAPS search and rescue team, were called to the scene on Saturday afternoon after the man went missing, Van Huyssteen said.
The search was continued on Sunday and the man’s body was found about 8am, she said.
“Unfortunately, there was nothing paramedics could do for the man and he was declared dead on the scene. It is believed that the man was on a small boat when it capsized yesterday (Saturday).”
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident were not yet known, Van Huyssteen said.
